Food
People of the plains ate many interesting foods. Their main source of food was the American buffalo. They ate it both dried, cooked and a lot of times they made it into stew. Berries were collected by women and eaten fresh or dried for later days. Some other sources of food were deer, moose, elk, wolves, coyotes, lynx, rabbits, gophers, and prairie chickens. The people of the plains had a healthy diet.
Fashion & Clothing
Plains clothing was inspired by visions and dreams. Clothing was made by women, they prepared and sewed hides. The hides were tanned on one side and fur was left on the other side for warmth. Men woe shirts, breechcloths and full length leggings, ponchos were worn over shoulder for warmth. Women wore dresses and short leggings.Belts headgear and necklaces were worn for flair. Footwear worn by both genders were moccasins made of moose hide. Plains people had a good sense of fashion.
Shelter
The Plains shelter was very different from are shelter these days. They lived in tents called “tipis”. Tipis are tall cone like structures made from hides. They were very weatherproof, they were warm in the winter time and colder in the summer. Fur line hides covered the ground and in the center there was a hearth fire. Plains aboriginals had different but very comforting homes.
Important Items
The Plains aboriginal people had many interesting items. There most important items were medicine bundles, pipes, shields, mandella’s, dream catchers and drums. A lot of these items were for spiritual beliefs. Without these items the Plains wouldn’t be so advanced today.
Population
There was a lot of aboriginals who lived in the Plains. There is 6.7 million people who live in the Plains, most of which lived in metropolitan counties. The rest of which lived in rural counties. The Plains Indians have lost about half a million people living in rural counties in the past decade(2015-2005). I never knew the Plains aboriginal was such a big population.
