The Geography of the Plains People
Location
The people of the plains were obviously located in the plains, mostly in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Their territory starts at the border between B.C. and Alberta, and ends at Lake Winnipeg. There are 5 different groups located in the plains, Blackfoot, Sacree, Plains Cree, Gros Ventre, Assiniboine, and Saulteau.

How did they hunt?

The landscape dramatically changed the way that the people of the plains hunted. They used spears to
hunt buffalo, and then later started to use bows, which were very useful. It
was very flat in the plains, so having a bow meant that the first nations could
shout them from very far away. The people of the plains would also use the
landscape to their advantage. They had many hunting methods, such as the
“buffalo pound.” This was where they would lure buffalo into a ravine and then
attack them with spears. Another method was the “buffalo jump.” This was when
the first nations would drive the buffalo off a cliff and then collect the
remains at the bottom.
